[ad_1] GT have formed a well balanced squad at thenl auction. (PC: X.com) Gujarat Titans made their intent clear well before the auction by retaining four Indian players, along with Rashid Khan, who was their highest-paid retention. The clarity in their strategy was evident as the 2022 IPL champions approached the auction in Jeddah.Ā  From the outset, securing a wicketkeeper-batter was a priority, and they succeeded by acquiring Jos Buttler for an impressive Rs 15.75 crore. Additionally, they strengthened their core by bringing in marquee players like Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada. With a focus on bolstering their pace attack, Titans also added Prasidh Krishna, Gurnoor Singh Brar, Ishant Sharma and Kulwant Khejroliya to their roster. On Day 2, they balanced their line-up with the inclusion of spin-bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar for Rs 3.20 crore. Beyond their star acquisitions, GT invested in utility players like Glenn Phillips, Mahipal Lomror, R Sai Kishore, Karim Janat, Arshad Khan and Gerald Coetzee. They also secured valuable back-ups, including Nishant Sindhu, Jayant Yadav and Manav Suthar, ensuring depth and flexibility in their squad. Hits Jos Buttler Since 2022, no overseas batter has dominated the IPL scene quite like Jos Buttler. His addition is a significant boost for GT. If the team opts for an opening combination of Shubman Gill and Buttler, the former can play a measured role, allowing Buttler to be the enforcer. Additionally, Buttler will take up wicketkeeping duties and contribute to the leadership group. Sherfane Rutherford Rutherford has been in outstanding form in white-ball cricket and is set to be David Millerā€™s replacement in the team. Just before his name came up at the auction, he became the first batter to score a century in the Abu Dhabi T10 League. The left-hander is a reliable and explosive option in the middle-order, capable of delivering under pressure, much like Rahul Tewatia. Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna Considering the pitch conditions in Ahmedabad, GT were always likely to build a strong seam attack, and they succeeded admirably. Having two capped Indian bowlers in Siraj and Prasidh is a big positive. Combined with Rabada, the trio has the potential to dismantle any batting line-up during the Powerplay itself. Siraj is a proven wicket-taker with the new ball, while Prasidh can generate extra bounce on any surface. Misses GT covered most of their bases effectively, but the lack of a proven middle-order batter might be a concern. While Phillips, Mahipal Lomror, and Rutherford are all talented players, they lack IPL experience. However, apart from this, the squad appears well-balanced and ready for the upcoming season. Overall rating: 7.5/10 GT IPL 2025 Squad: Rashid Khan, Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, Shahrukh Khan, Kagiso Rabada (Rs. 10.75 crore), Jos Buttler (Rs. 15.75 crore). Mohammed Siraj (Rs. 12.25 crore), Prasidh Krishna (Rs. 9.50 crore), Nishant Sindhu (Rs. 30 lakh), Mahipal Lomror (Rs. 1.70 crore), Kumar Kushagra (Rs. 65 lakh), Anuj Rawat (Rs. 30 lakh), Manav Suthar (Rs. 30 lakh), Washington Sundar (Rs. 3.20 crore), Gerald Coetzee (Rs. 2.40 crore), Arshad Khan (Rs. 1.30 crore), Gurnoor Brar (Rs. 1.30 crore), Sherfane Rutherford (Rs. 2.60 crore), Sai Kishore (Rs. 2 crore), Ishant Sharma (Rs. 75 lakh), Jayant Yadav (Rs. 75 lakh), Glenn Phillips (Rs. 2 crore), Karim Janat (Rs. 75 lakh), Kulwant Khejroliya (Rs. 30 lakh). Top franchises likely to bid big for Rishabh Pant in IPL auction
Tumblr media
The exit of Rishabh Pant from Delhi Capitals ahead of 2025 IPL auction
Rishabh Pantā€™s journey with Delhi Capitals saw a significant turning point in 2021 when he assumed the captaincy in Shreyas Iyerā€™s absence. DC retained Pant as captain during the IPL 2022 mega auction, releasing Iyer, who subsequently joined KKR and led them the following year. Pant captained Delhi in IPL 2022 but missed the 2023 season as he recovered from several injuries that he sustained during an unfortunate car accident. After his recovery, Pant returned to lead the team in IPL 2024.
However, after IPL 2024, Delhi Capitals experienced major internal changes. Ricky Ponting, the head coach, moved to Punjab Kings, while Sourav Ganguly took a sabbatical following the GMR groupā€™s takeover of team operations from JSW for the next two years. Speculation about Pantā€™s release began circulating after Pontingā€™s exit. Reports soon surfaced that while DC was willing to retainĀ Rishabh PantĀ as a player, they wanted a new captain. Pant, however, was firm on retaining his leadership role. This misalignment led to his release, making him one of the hottest picks for the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Franchises likely to bid for Rishabh Pant in IPL auction
Punjab Kings
With the largest auction budget of Rs 110.5 crore, Punjab Kings have released their entire squad, barring uncapped players Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh. The team is keen on rebuilding from scratch and is likely to make a strong bid for Pant in theĀ IPL auction. Moreover, PBKS is in need of a captaincy pick following the retirement of Shikhar Dhawan. Punjabā€™s new head coach, Ricky Ponting, who shares a successful history with Pant from their Delhi Capitals days, is expected to champion the effort to bring him into the fold.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore, armed with Rs 83 crore, has the second-highest budget for the IPL auction. With Dinesh Karthik no longer in their squad, they are in need of a wicketkeeper-batter, and Pant fits the bill perfectly. While RCB hasnā€™t retained Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli has expressed interest in reclaiming the captaincy, which could work as a middle ground for Pant. Even if not given the leadership, Pant may relish the chance to play under Kohliā€™s guidance.
Chennai Super Kings
Although Chennai Super Kings have a smaller auction purse of Rs 55 crore, they are rumoured to be considering Pant. Speculation arose after former CSK player Suresh Raina hinted at a possible connection between Pant and MS Dhoni. However, given Pantā€™s likely price tag of Rs 18ā€“20 crore, CSK might find it challenging to compete financially in the IPL auction. Moreover, with Ruturaj Gaikwad only recently stepping into the captaincy role, CSK is unlikely to offer Pant the leadership position, leaving questions about whether they would prioritize signing him.

Wanindu Hasaranga's exclusion from the Royal Challengers Bangalore's retained players list raised quite a few eyebrows. RCB went all-out for the Sri Lankan all-rounder in the 2022 IPL Auction, shelling out INR 10.75 Crore. He was the team's primary spinner. Now that Hasaranga is in the auction pool, several teams could bid for his services. Hasaranga's ability to bat in the middle-order, along with his lethal variations in bowling, makes him a deadly T20 player. He can hit the ball long when required, giving his team flexibility in picking an additional specialist player to cover their weaknesses.Immediate ImpactWanindu Hasaranga had shown promise from a young age. He was a part of the 2016 Sri Lanka Under-19 World Cup squad, where he took 7 wickets. He was particularly impressive in the match against England, picking up 3 wickets for 34 runs to restrict the opposition to 184.In the initial days of his career, he was known more for his batting than his bowling. He was a capable middle-order batsman who could score quickly. Playing for Colombo Cricket Club in 2017, he scored 586 runs in the Premier League Tournament. As he started working on his bowling, he became known as a prominent all-rounder. It became impossible for the selectors to ignore him after that.He made his international debut against Zimbabwe in 2017 and became the third debutant in ODI history to pick up a hat-trick.The RCB associationHasaranga couldn't find any takers in his first IPL auction in 2021. But he was brought into the Royal Challengers Bangalore as a replacement for the injured Adam Zampa. He played just 2 matches in the season and didn't pick up any wickets. RCB, though, had a long-term plan in mind for Hasaranga. In the subsequent season, he played 16 matches for RCB as they reached the Playoffs and fell just one step short of making the final. Hasaranga claimed 26 wickets in the season at an average of 16.54. He also added his first five-wicket-haul to his name.He missed the first part of the 2023 season as Sri Lanka were touring New Zealand at the time. On returning to the side, he didn't make a big impression. In 8 matches, he took just 9 wickets at an average of 28.67. Perhaps RCB found it hard to justify his high price tag after this performance and released him ahead of the Mini Auction.Teams that could target Wanindu HasarangaSunrisers Hyderabad have two Indian spinners in Mayank Markande and Washington Sundar. But their spin attack is still nowhere as deadly as their pace attack. Hasaranga's addition could elevate the overall quality of the bowling attack and make it among the most lethal in the tournament. They have Rs 34 crore to work with, so they can go big on Hasaranga.Delhi Capitals' spin department has arguably two of the strongest left-arm spinners in the game - Kuldeep Yadav and Axar Patel. The addition of a right-arm leg-spinner will add another dimension to their attack. Hasaranga's ability to push the ball through can also be handy at the team's home ground - the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The Delhi Capitals have a purse of Rs 28.95 at their disposal. They can gamble on Hasaranga if they believe he is the missing piece in their attack. The Punjab Kings have gone for youth over experience in their retentions ahead of the 2024 mini-auction. They have Rahul Chahar as a wrist spin option. But he doesn't have the mystery of Hasaranga. Their backup option, Liam Livingstone, could have a bad day since he is not a regular spinner. They will need experience in their spin department, particularly when visiting stadiums where the track offers turn. Punjab Kings have Rs 29.1 crore in their kitty and space for two more overseas players in their squad.Topics mentioned in this article

IPL 2024 Auction: Gujarat Titans Captain Hardik Pandya Is Rejoining Mumbai Indians For All-Cash Trade, Says Report
Tumblr media
In what could mark one of the most significant trades in Indian Premier League (IPL) history, the captain of Gujarat Titans, Hardik Pandya, is reportedly poised to return to his former franchise, the Mumbai Indians (MI), ahead of the IPL 2024 auction set for December. This anticipated move is set to be an all-cash trade, with MI covering Hardik's entire salary and an undisclosed transfer fee to GT. Notably, it's speculated that Hardik might receive half of the transfer fee, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
Hardik Pandya's IPL salary stands at around $1.8 million, approximately equivalent to Rs 15 crore. However, both franchises have maintained silence regarding the specifics of this lucrative deal. If finalized, this trade would mark the first instance of an IPL-winning captain switching teams via trade. Hardik previously led the Titans to their debut IPL trophy in 2022, and in 2023, guided the team to the final where they fell short against MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
For this trade to materialize, MI must have Rs 15 crore available in their purse, but currently, they possess only Rs 0.05 crore. Each of the ten franchises is allotted Rs 5 crore for the forthcoming auction. To acquire the remaining Rs 10 crore required to bring Hardik on board, MI will need to release some players.
During his two-season tenure with the Titans, Hardik showcased his prowess by amassing 833 runs in 30 innings, boasting an impressive average of 41.65 and a striking rate of 133.49. Additionally, he contributed to the team's bowling strength, securing 11 wickets with an economy rate of 8.1. Presently, Hardik is sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained during India's ODI World Cup campaign.
Prior to this potential trade, only two captains had been traded - R Ashwin and Ajinkya Rahane - when Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) exchanged players.
Hardik commenced his IPL journey with the Mumbai Indians in 2015. However, ahead of the 2022 mega auctions, MI had to let Hardik go as they could retain only a limited number of players. GT owners, CVC Capital, secured Hardik from the pool along with Rashid Khan and Shubman Gill.
Notably, Hardik clinched four IPL titles with MI in 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020 respectively. With Rohit Sharma potentially nearing retirement, MI might see Hardik's return as an opportunity for him to lead the side in the forthcoming years.

[ad_1] The Titans have 69 crore to build their squad in the mega auction. (PC: X.com) The Team The Titans were among the most successful teams in the previous cycle, despite missing out on the playoffs last season. Champions in 2022, they came agonisingly close to repeating their triumph in 2023, falling to the Chennai Super Kings in a thrilling last-over finish. However, their 2024 campaign highlighted certain weaknesses, particularly due to the absence of key players such as Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami. While the squad featured some standout performers, its overall balance was ill-suited to the demands of a tournament like the IPL, ultimately costing them a playoff spot. Despite the disappointing season, the franchise has shown faith in Shubman Gill, retaining him as captain. Alongside Gill, the Titans have also retained Rashid Khan, B Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia, and Shahrukh Khan. Auction Purse and Strategy GT have spent a total of Rs 51 crores, leaving them with a purse of Rs 69 crores for the auction. With Gill and Sudharsan, they have two reliable batters at the top, while the lower-middle order is well-covered with Tewatia, Shahrukh, and Rashid. Heading into the auction, they will be looking to strengthen their middle order, similar to how they relied on David Miller previously, as well as acquiring quality pace-bowling options. Additionally, they may look to buy back someone like R Sai Kishore to complement Rashid in the spin department.Ā  Areas they need to strengthen Filling the gaps in the middle order will be a key focus. If they opt for Gill and Sai to open the innings, they will need to find players who can slot into positions 3, 4, and 5, as Tewatia, Shahrukh, and Rashid are more suited to finishing roles. One explosive top-order batter is likely to be on their radarā€”someone who can attack the bowling from the first ball, as both Gill and Sai tend to take time to settle before accelerating. Another priority will be securing quality fast bowlers. Not having retained any pacers, this will undoubtedly be an area of focus, with several likely to be on their wishlist. While Rashid leads the spin department, they will also need to explore other options, possibly an Indian finger-spinner like Sai Kishore or Harpreet Brar. Players they would like to target Ishan Kishan, Jos Buttler, Quinton de Kock, Phil Salt and Rahmanullah Gurbaz are some of the explosive top-order batters who can keep the wickets as well that will be in GTā€™s target list. Theyā€™ll surely go for prominent Indian batters like Nitish Rana, Venkatesh Iyer and Rahul Tripathi. When it comes to their bowling unit, GT will focus on strengthening both powerplay and death-over options by pursuing experienced names like Mitchell Starc, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, or T Natarajan. Additionally, acquiring a seam-bowling all-rounder like Marcus Stoinis could help fill the void left by Pandya. To support Rashid in the spin department, GT may also target players such as Sai Kishore, Washington Sundar, or Shahbaz Ahmed. Players they would like to buy backĀ  Shami could be brought back using the RTM option. However, if they fail to secure his services, opting for a proven performer like David Miller or a spin sensation such as Noor Ahmad with the RTM would also be a smart move. GT will also aim to reacquire Sai Kishore, whose left-arm spin provides excellent control and who can contribute with the bat as well. The Indian Premier League 2024 season has reached the business end, and the biggest talking point this year has been the dominance of the bat over the ball, with batting-friendly pitches, record-breaking totals, shocking strike rates, and sixes galore being the norm of the season. While Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders have taken the cricketing world by storm, others like the Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru have been poor with the ball and are languishing at the bottom of the table. There is a saying that batters win you matches, but it is the bowlers who win you tournaments. Thereā€™s constant pressure on bowlers to give their best, as even a tiny mistake can end the teamā€™s campaign. Having said that, world-class bowlers have performed well, showcasing their experience and taking wickets at crucial junctures. While some of the experienced bowlers have gone for runs in the IPL 2024 season so far, letā€™s take a look at the list of bowlers who have taken the most wickets in IPL history to date.
Top 3 bowlers with the most wickets in IPL history
Yuzvendra Chahal ā€” 200 Wickets Breaching new milestones in his entertaining T20 career, Indian wrist spinner Yuzvendra Chahal entered his name into the history books by taking his 200th IPL wicket in match 38 of the IPL 2024 season between Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians on Monday. The spin wizard dismissed MIā€™s Mohammad Nabi to become the first player in the history of IPL to take 200 wickets. The wily wrist spinner has been part of three teams IPL sides, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals. However, Chahal came into the limelight when he consistently took wickets for RCB, especially at their batting-friendly home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Despite his record performance, RCB did not retain Chahal. The 33-year-old leg spinner ended up winning the Purple Cap playing for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2022 season, taking 27 wickets. He is currently in the sixth position for most wickets in IPL 2024. While talking about Chahalā€™s overall IPL stats, he has an impressive economy of 7.8 and a bowling average of 22.12.

The West Indies superstar holds the joint first position on the list of highest wicket-takers in IPL in a single season alongside Harshal Patel. The star all-rounder took 32 wickets in 18 games during the IPL 2013 season. His impressive bowling performance helped the Chennai Super Kings qualify for the finals. While talking about his entire IPL playoffs career, Bravo has taken 28 wickets, with a strike rate of 13.8 and an economy rate of 8.21 in 19 matches.

The 2023 mega auction of the IPL took place in Bengaluru in December.Ā The most expensive player wasĀ Sam Curran, bought byĀ Punjab KingsĀ forĀ ā‚¹18.50Ā croreĀ (US$2.3Ā million), the most-paid player in the history of the league. Ahead of the auction, all the IPL franchises published their list of retained players in November 2022. Some of the big names that were retained in the 2023 edition include MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Sunil Narine, Glenn Maxwell, Andre Russell, and Jasprit Bumrah.Ā Gujarat TitansĀ are the defending champions.
Tata Group retains as the title sponsor of IPL 2023
The IPL Governing Council announced the new IPL season after the IPL 2023 auction was completed. Aside from the promise to be bigger, better, and more enthralling, Tata Group was announced as the new title sponsor for the Indian Premier League. Tata Group replaces Chinese mobile manufacturer Vivo as the title sponsor for the IPL 2022 and 2023 editions. New rules in Tata IPL 2023
The BCCI stated that it "will preserve IPL's position at the forefront of innovative cricket and continue the growth of the T20 format" in a memo announcing the new umpire signal and rules of the Impact Player.
The BCCI has informed franchises that following the toss, as was recently implemented in SA20, captains may select their playing XI. Before the toss, the captains were required to declare the starting Eleven. Expanding the DRS's scope to include wide balls and no balls is another new regulation. The rules of the game specify that "a player may also be permitted to review any decision made by on-field umpires concerning wide or no ball."Ā
The Biggest Change in This IPL is the introduction of Impact Player. This is how the rule will play out. According to the BCCI, ā€œThe captain will identify the impact player to the umpire, and the umpire will signal in the manner as depicted in the above image indicating that the Impact player is being introduced. Teams can name four substitutes, or impact players, in their squad for a match in addition to my playing 11. One of these may be used as a substitute during the match.
It adds, "The Impact Player can be introduced (i) before the start of the innings; or (ii) after completion of an over; or (iii) in case of a batter, at the fall of the wicket or the batter retiring at any time during the over (as provided in Clause 1.8 (iv) below). The bowling team can also get an Impact Player during the fall of the wicket, but that Impact Player will not be permitted to bowl the remaining balls in that over if the wicket has fallen mid-over."
